Just finished a superb 14 day trip photographing birds in Ethiopia, guided by Abel Belay. Abel is an impressive, intelligent individual, expert in many aspects of Ethiopian fauna and flora. Importantly for a guide, as well as knowing all the best places to find particular bird species, knowing all the bird calls and having playback for most of them to attract them into view when necessary, he was highly professional. From the minute I was picked up promptly at the airport until the minute I was dropped off for my return flight, Abel worked tirelessly to make the trip a success for me. He is kind, considerate, friendly and passionate about what he does. He expertly modified the “usual” 14 day birding trip to Ethiopia, to instead locate us in the best possible places to get high quality photographs, avoiding locations where most of the species present would be high up in the canopy and difficult to capture. The changes he made all worked brilliantly and I could not be happier with the entire experience. I could only have dreamed about some of the shots I came back with, never imagining that I’d get full frame shots of a Carmine Bee-eater riding on the back of an Arabian Bustard! The driver Abel provided, Alex, was very safe and helped place the vehicle in perfect positions, at Abel’s or our instructions when we were photographing from it. I give Abel Belay my highest recommendation.
